◇ Contents Opening and introduction of Hiroba Cafe Introduction of France and China by lecturers from each country Q&A time and closing of the meeting
Introduction of countries France: Mr. Adrea introduced a quiz on French words and people, the island of Martinique where his parents are from, tourist attractions in Paris, transportation, food, and National Day. Although Martinique Island is in France, it is located in Central and South America, about 7000 km away from the capital Paris. He explained that the climate is similar to Okinawa and it is a peaceful island, showing pictures of the scenery and food. He was from Paris and explained about the Parisian transportation system. Showing a picture of a ticket, he said that you can take all the buses, subways, and trains with this one ticket that costs about 200 yen. He also explained that the price of a one-year commuter pass that allows you to use all modes of transportation and go anywhere in Paris is about 80,000 yen, which is convenient and cheap compared to Japan. He also explained that in Japan, people spend Christmas with their significant others and friends, and New Year’s with their families, but in France, it is the opposite. The participants said that they thought they knew a lot about France and its capital, Paris, including its art and food, but that they learned a lot from hearing about daily life from the perspective of a Paris citizen.
CHINA (Uighur)
Ms. Nakagawa introduced Uyghur ethnic costume, town, residence, tea culture, food, etc. She showed the patterns of the hats one by one and explained the meaning of each pattern in detail. She explained that in Uyghur, where there are many deserts, brightly colored cloths are popular, and women often wear hats with patterns of plants and flowers that are difficult to grow. As for housing, he compared a traditional house with an apartment in the city. “In both cases, the walls and floors are very fancy!” She showed pictures of colorfully decorated rooms. This, too, was probably a reflection of their preference for color because of the deserts. There was an explanation of the Uighur hospitality culture. They love tea and always have fruit, naan, and cookies on the table. She said that Uyghurs are dry and do not rot easily, so it is okay to leave things on the table. she also told us what not to do when visiting a Uyghur house. “she asked, “What do you do if you don’t have a towel after washing your hands?” They all waved their hands and let the water fall. Actually, this is not allowed to do. She explained that it was correct to rub your hands together and let the water be absorbed by your hands because water is very important in Uyghur desert. She told us through familiar examples that Uyghur region is different from Japan, which is blessed with water, in terms of housing, clothing, and daily life, because there are many desert areas.
