FIEF aims to strengthen Fukuoka Prefecture’s functions as a hub for international exchange by utilizing the region’s geographical proximity and unique historical background and by promoting resident-driven international exchange in cooperation with other locally based international exchange organizations. The other objective of FIEF is to contribute to world peace and mutual prosperity by sharing culture and increasing communication between Fukuoka, countries of Asia and the world.

  • ・FIEF seeks donations to promote its operations to achieve the abovementioned objectives.
  • ・FIEF has received accreditation as a “special foundation for the enhancement of public interest”, and monetary donations are subject to tax concessions.

History

June 16,1986

The necessity for the establishment of an international exchange associationand its funding proposed in the long-term project “Fukuoka Prefecture Toward the 21st Century Plan”.

January 11,1986

The Fukuoka Prefecture internationalization discussion group’s “Proposal for the Internationalization of Fukuoka Prefecture” advocates the necessity for the prompt establishment of the “Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation” (tentatively named).

March 1988

For the First Implementation Plan for Fukuoka in the 21st Century, the establishment of a prefectural international exchange association is advocated as a major project.

June 30 to November 24,1988

Review Meeting for the establishment of the tentatively -named Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation is held (3 times).

April 28,1989

Preparation Committee for the establishment of the tentatively-named Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation holds meetings.

June 1,1989

Organizing Committee for the establishment of the tentatively-named Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation holds meetings.

June 27,1989

Establishment of Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation (Approved by Governor) Office opens on the 8th floor of Nippon Seimei Hakata Minami Bldg. (Fukuoka City)

July 1,1989

Inauguration of the Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation. (Closure of Fukuoka Overseas Association, and continuation of migration activities).

August 7,1989

Commencement of projects by Fukuoka International Exchange Foundation. First Meeting of the Executive Board and Board of Trustees takes place.

January 23,1990

Received official accreditation as a “Regional Internationalization Association” from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

August 1,1994

Received official recognition as a special foundation for the enhancement of public interest.

April 29,1995

Office moves to ACROS Fukuoka and the establishment of the Kokusai Hiroba.
